The featured staff member of the week is Mrs. Angie Little. Mrs. Little is a proud graduate of South Dearborn High School. After high school, she attended Southwest College where she earned her certification in office administration. After that, she babysat children for 15 years. For the past 20 years, she has worked in a variety of roles at South Dearborn Community School Corporation. Mrs. Little has been the secretary to the superintendent for the past five years. Mrs. Little is married (35 years - wow!), and has three children who have blessed her and her husband with seven grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, going to the movies, and doing crafts. A fun fact about Mrs. Little is that she leads the praise and worship team at church—and if you haven’t heard her, she can sing! We are so blessed to have her as part of our Knight family for the past two decades! #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve

South Dearborn High School students in Mrs. Hartle’s art class honed their skills with acrylic paints! Students practiced blending techniques to create stunning visual effects in their artwork. This project helped them develop their artistic style while exploring color theory and texture in painting. 🖌️

Last week, South Dearborn Middle School students interested in IT from Ms. McCune's Exploring College and Career class enjoyed a valuable and engaging learning experience at Nexigen in Newport, Kentucky. Students learned about the company's services, which include managed IT, cloud solutions, cybersecurity, IT consulting, data backup and recovery, network management, and custom software development. Further, the students received an inside look at how Nexigen is at the forefront of artificial intelligence, offering solutions to their clients that enhance their business operations through AI-driven services. We are incredibly grateful to Nexigen for hosting us and providing our students with the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights into emerging trends in their chosen career field!

Mrs. Bulach’s fifth grade class at Manchester Elementary School brought the water cycle to life with a hands-on experiment! Students filled bags with water and blue food coloring before placing them in the sun or the shade. Later in the school day, the students returned to observe that evaporation and condensation had occurred. This interactive project helped them understand how the water cycle works in nature over time!

Fifth grade Dillsboro Elementary School students in Mrs. Peterson’s class enjoyed an exciting hands-on learning experience while reading "Bridge to Sharktooth Island!" This engaging book, centered around teamwork and problem-solving, inspired students to dive into the world of engineering and bridge-building. Students learned how triangles add strength to structures and explored the design of truss bridges. After sketching their models, they constructed bridges using gumdrops and toothpicks to test their strength in a mass-holding contest. The winning bridge held an impressive 305 grams of mass—built by Lucas, Laney, Thor, Braxton, and Zoey! Amazing work by everyone in the class for their creativity and engineering skills!

The Student Lighthouse Team at Aurora Elementary School truly shined last week! In just 30 minutes, they packed up 200 bags of food for the elderly at The Clearinghouse Food Pantry. What a fantastic way to demonstrate the love our students have for our Aurora community! 💖 This act of service not only helped our community, but it also taught our students the value of giving back. Let's keep this spirit of giving alive this season and beyond! 🌟

Last week I attended the Manchester Elementary School and Dillsboro Elementary School holiday music programs. It was so much fun to see our kiddos perform. The best part was the end: all of the students were on stage singing and Santa came out. Such a fun way to end the program! - Supt. Ross #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve

First grade Aurora Elementary School students in Mrs. Cady's class explored shapes as they studied geometry! Students learned about the characteristics that make something a certain shape, the names of various shapes including circles, squares, triangles and more; and the process of altering shapes through transformations like rotation and dilation. Finally, students explored how they could combine existing shapes to form new ones and they enjoyed creating their own unique shapes with Tangram blocks!

The featured staff member of the week is Mrs. Cindy Grigsby. Mrs Grigsby graduated from Oak Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduation, she attended the University of Cincinnati where she earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts. She started as a paraprofessional in a classroom to support students with emotional disabilities. She became passionate about special education and decided to become a special education teacher. She earned her second bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree in special education at Indiana University Southeast. She has been teaching for 26 years—the last five of which have been in South Dearborn at Aurora Elementary School. She loves her coworkers and immediately felt like she was at home when she came to SD. Mrs. Grigsby is married. She and her husband have six cats. She is a true animal lover and has rescued over 30 stray animals. For fun, Mrs. Grigsby enjoys spending time with her family, being outside, creating art, building things, and gardening. A fun fact about Mrs. Grigsby is that she taught a summer school art class in Hoonah, Alaska. Bears would unexpectedly show up during recess and the students would regularly practice bear drills so that they knew what to do when a bear would arrive. We are so blessed that she found her way to SD to serve our Red Devils! #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve

Dillsboro Elementary School students in Mr. Ridlen’s fourth grade class reviewed the relationship and differences between fractions (rational numbers), whole numbers, and integers on a number line. This lesson became hands-on as students manipulated the pieces of their number line to solve problems and explore these relationships concretely.
