Aurora Elementary School students in Ms. Cady's first-grade class explored the intersection of creativity and technology by designing their own unique animals using AI and Adobe Express. Through the process of prompt engineering, they carefully crafted and refined their inputs—experimenting with nouns, verbs, and adjectives—to generate AI-generated visuals that matched their imaginative visions. After developing their custom creatures, students completed a planning sheet to define key details about their animals, including their diet, habitat, behaviors, and lifespan. This thoughtful planning culminated in a written report that brought their creations to life on the page. The project not only strengthened students’ digital literacy and writing skills but also introduced them to the power of precise language in guiding artificial intelligence.

On March 12th, South Dearborn Middle School proudly hosted Career Day, an engaging event organized by Exploring College and Careers teacher Carrie McCune. Students rotated through five informative sessions led by local professionals, gaining firsthand insight into a wide range of career paths and the education and skills needed to pursue them.
We extend our sincere thanks to the presenters, faculty, and staff who helped make this day a success—and to our students, whose thoughtful questions and enthusiastic participation made the event even more meaningful. Career Day is a valuable opportunity that supports Indiana’s Employability and College and Career Readiness Standards, empowering students to explore their future with purpose and confidence.

After studying the science of weathering and erosion, fourth-grade students in Mrs. Cotton’s class at Manchester Elementary School brought Earth’s dynamic forces to life! Using salt dough, students sculpted detailed models of various landforms, including towering mountains, erupting volcanoes, and other geological features. Through hands-on creation, they deepened their understanding of how natural processes shape and reshape the Earth over time.

The featured staff member of the week is Mr. Derrick Mann. He graduated from Bishop Brossart High School in Alexandria, Kentucky. After high school, he attended Ivy Tech, where he earned two associate degrees—one in PC support, and the other in administration and networking. Eight years ago, Mr. Mann began working with Five Star as an IT support technician, serving South Dearborn Community School Corporation. Within the last year, he officially joined our school district as a full-time employee, serving in the role of IT support. Mr. Mann recently celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary. He and his wife have two children. For fun, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending Cincinnati Cyclones games, completing construction projects, and doing tech repairs on the side. A fun fact about Mr. Mann is that his cross country team won the state championship during his senior year of high school. We are so grateful for his nearly decadelong dedication to supporting our students and staff! #SuccessDrive #GrowExcelAchieve

South Dearborn High School students took a closer look at the integumentary system—our skin, hair, nails, and glands—with Mrs. Gilb. Using microscopes, they examined slides of human skin, focusing on sweat and oil glands. Through this hands-on activity, they explored how these structures regulate body temperature and maintain hydration. The lesson highlighted just how much our skin does to protect and support the body. 🔬
