Welcome Back

 Greetings Knight Families,

The South Dearborn Community School Board, administration, faculty, and staff are excited to celebrate
the start of the 2024-2025 School Year with our students and families. The first day of school will be on
Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Open houses will be held at the elementary schools on Monday, August 5,
2024 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. We hope to see everyone there! There will be opportunities to engage with
the middle and high school at a later date. This is my first year as the superintendent at South Dearborn
Community Schools. It is an honor to serve the various communities that comprise our district – I have
already met so many awesome people! 

Every start to the school year is exciting! SDCSC has a new superintendent, a new principal at Aurora
Elementary School, and many new teachers and staff members in various roles around the district. Please
join me in helping all of our new folks feel welcome.
People often ask me why educators are so busy in the summer. Summer is when we prepare for the next
school year. Our administrators, teachers, and staff have worked throughout the summer to prepare for the
school year ahead. If our hard work is any indication of the type of school year we will have, I know it is
going to be a momentous year! 

The Indiana General Assembly has passed new laws regarding cell phone usage at school and student
attendance. I know there will be some growing pains as it pertains to these changes. Please know we view
our families as partners in this process and want to work with you as these changes are implanted in our
schools. Please refer to your student's handbook for specifics regarding these policies.

Our wonderful team of educators have worked to develop plans to identify students who need extra
support and provide additional assistance as needed. It is our belief that students learn best in a classroom
receiving in-person instruction from their teachers and support staff. With the Covid 19 Pandemic firmly
behind us, we would like to focus on getting back to basics. As evidenced by the high school's change
from trimesters to semesters, we are looking at maximizing instructional time and getting the most out of
our school day.

We value and appreciate the meaningful relationships that we have with our students, families, and the
communities we serve. We are looking forward to strengthening and expanding those relationships during
the upcoming school year to provide the best opportunities for our students!
