Students in Ms. Black's first grade STEM class learned about coding, algorithms, and debugging using BeeBots. BeeBots can be programmed to traverse a set path on the floor grid. Programming BeeBot operations is a fun way to offer students valuable experience learning the important digital skills they will need to succeed in the future.

I attended the parent night at SDHS Wednesday evening. The Marching Band kicked the event off (I heard them, but missed the photo opportunity). Then Show Choir dazzled us with an amazing performance in the auditorium. There was food and the parents were free to wonder the building and meet our amazing staff! It was a great night that showcased our students and staff!

Wednesday SDHS hosted a college and career fair for the students. The event was a huge success! I was lucky enough to attend and interact with the students and the vendors. The students were able to learn about colleges and universities that they can attend after graduation as well as careers waiting for them after graduation or after additional education or training. Special shoutout to IU East for hooking this proud alum up with some swag for my office! We appreciate all of the colleges, universities, and employers for participating! - Supt. The featured staff member of the week is Mrs. Christa Socks. Mrs. Socks graduated from Lawrenceburg High School. After graduation, she attended Indiana University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Ten years ago, she started at South Dearborn as a substitute teacher and later became a paraprofessional for a special needs classroom. She absolutely loved it and decided to get her teaching license. She went through the transition to teaching program at American College of Education (ACE). For the past eight years, Mrs. Socks has been a special education teacher at SDHS. Mrs. Socks has been married for 27 years and has three children. Two of them are proud graduates of SDHS and her third child is in his senior year at SDHS. Mrs. Socks enjoys spending time with her family, reading, playing games, and fishing. A fun fact about Mrs. Socks is that she was a competitive baton twirler for 10 years when she was younger. We are so grateful for the decade of service that Mrs. Socks has given to our Knights, and we look forward to many more years of her dedication to our students! #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve

In lieu of “spooky season” being upon us, South Dearborn Middle School students in Mr. Mattox’s class read Roald Dahl’s short horror story, “The Landlady.” In addition to enjoying this bone chilling read, the students analyzed the literary elements that made the plot twists and horror of this story successful. What’s your favorite scary story to read around Halloween? 👻📙

First grade Aurora Elementary School students in Mrs. Cady’s class have enjoyed getting hands-on in their learning recently! Students sounded out words and practiced writing letters with shaving cream. They also constructed words together by combining sound cards to better understand how to pronounce each syllable in a given word. Further, students practiced addition and place values in math by using mini pretzel sticks and mini marshmallows to correctly represent the math equations they were solving. What a fun way to hone their reading and math skills!
