Quick thinking was essential in Mrs. Piche’s sixth-grade class at Dillsboro Elementary School during her "5-Second Rule" activity. Students read texts, formed quick hypotheses about their meaning, and then analyzed their true purpose. This engaging exercise strengthened their reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical skills, helping them develop deeper connections with the material.

Love and learning came together at Dillsboro Elementary School as both kindergarten classes embarked on a heartwarming mission—the “Hearts Around the USA” Valentine’s Project! Their goal? To collect a valentine from every state (and maybe even beyond!). We are thrilled to share that not only did they meet their goal, but they surpassed it, receiving an incredible 165 cards from all over the country! To celebrate this achievement, students enjoyed a fun-filled class party, complete with an American heart craft and a delicious red, white, and blue ice cream social. A huge thank you to everyone who sent a card and helped make this project such a memorable and meaningful experience for our students! 💌

South Dearborn High School students in Ms. Heffelmire’s geometry classes jumped into right triangles! After refreshing their algebra skills by simplifying square roots, they tackled the Pythagorean theorem and its converse. As they worked in small teams, students collaborated to solve problems and checked their answers with Ms. Heffelmire for guidance or corrections. This hands-on approach not only strengthened their math skills but also fostered teamwork and independent problem-solving!

My family and I had so much fun at the Dillsboro Elementary School Carnival Friday Night! There was such a good turnout! I couldn’t get my little guy out of the “Dino Dig” - he wasn’t interested in the dinosaurs, he just wanted to throw the balls that hid the dinos. - Supt. Ross

March 2nd is National Read Across America Day. On Friday Dillsboro Elementary School and Aurora Elementary School celebrated a little early (Manchester Elementary School will celebrate next week). I was able to read to Mrs. Bramstedt‘s class at AES and Mrs. Mueller‘s class at DES. Going into classrooms and being with our students, teachers, and staff is one of my favorite things to do! - Supt. Ross #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve

The featured staff member of the week is Mr. Scott Sickmeier. Mr. Sickmeier graduated from Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. After high school, he attended Northern Kentucky University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Later, he attended Ball State Univeristy, where he earned his master’s degree in educational leadership and supervision. Mr. Sickmeier is in his thirteenth year of teaching and his eighth year at South Dearborn! He taught three years at Aurora Elementary School before starting his five years at Manchester Elementary School. He coached basketball for four years and has coached robotics for four years. He has led the MES Robotics team to a State Championship — wow! Mr. Sickmeier currently serves as our Title I teacher at MES. Mr. Sickmeier is married and he has two children, a dog, and a cat. For fun, Mr. Sickmeier enjoys spending time with his family, traveling (especially road trips), collecting antiques, visiting antique stores, and watching sports (especially the Bengals, Reds, & FC Soccer). A fun fact about Mr. Sickmeier is that he was the 2004 Northern Kentucky Baseball Player of the Year—wow! In a tournament in high school, he was struck out by future MLB All-Star David Price! We are so blessed to have him serving our Shiners on a daily basis! #SuccessDriven #GrowExcelAchieve
