Today we welcome Krista Hensley, Moores Hill Title I teacher, to the Meet Our Team Monday spotlight!
Mrs. Hensley graduated from South Dearborn High School and went on to attend Thomas More College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She later attained a master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment from Walden University.
We asked Mrs. Hensley if there was a teacher during her elementary or high school career who made an impact on her decision to choose education for her own career path. She replied, “My favorite teacher was Mrs. Birkholtz. She was always so kind and patient. Mrs. Birkholtz took the time to help me until I understood the concept being taught. Her efforts became a model for the type of teacher I aspired to become as well.” She says she chose to go into education to help kids learn. “I especially enjoy working to help the students who struggle or ‘just don’t get it’ the first time.”
Mrs. Hensley says that the thing she enjoys most about being a member of the MHES team is how well the staff works together. “We are a very close group of teachers, and we can lean on each other when needed. We are all in education for the right reason – we love kids and want to teach them to be successful.” She also pointed out the great programs that SDCSC has in place to provide opportunities for the children in our community. Just another reason she loves being a member of the SDCSC team!
We asked Mrs. Hensley to share her hopes and goals for the school year with us. She responded, “My goal is to help each student succeed to his or her full potential. I strive to let each child know that when he is at MHES, he is valued and cared about.”
When she’s not at school, Mrs. Hensley enjoys spending time with her family, watching her kids play sports, and having fun. She also enjoys vacations, going on runs, and reading a good book. Mrs. Hensley also dedicates much of her free time to the cheerleading team as a coach, is a member of the cheer committee, and a member of MHES PTO.
Mrs. Hensley’s advice for her students is, “Always do your best!” Great advice at any age! Thank you for sharing with us today, Mrs. Hensley.
