It’s Meet Our Team Monday once again and this week we’d like to spotlight Ms. Katlin Combs, Visual Arts teacher at South Dearborn Middle School. This is her first year with SDCSC and we’re very excited to have her join the team.
Ms. Combs graduated from Boone County High School in Kentucky and received her Bachelor of Arts in art education from Northern Kentucky University. Ms. Combs says that she chose to become an educator because she enjoys working with and helping people and “education was a way for me to do both of the things I love.”
When we asked Ms. Combs what teachers in her own past may have encouraged her decision to become a teacher she responded, “I had multiple teachers that really made learning fun. I had a hard time choosing which subject I loved the most. My high school trigonometry and art teachers were probably the most influential. My art teacher really believed in me when I asked her about becoming an art teacher. She pretty much sealed the deal!”
Ms. Combs said that she really enjoys being a part of the SDMS team. “The faculty and staff at SDMS are enthusiastic and supportive! I love working with these exciting teachers. The students let their personalities really blossom and never cease to amaze me with their creativity.”
We asked Ms. Combs what her hopes and goals are for the 2016-17 school year and she said, “I hope to help my students create artwork in new ways, and help them see opportunities in all of their endeavors.”
In her free time Ms. Combs enjoys reading a book with her two cats snuggling on her lap, or exploring Cincinnati or a new park.
We asked Ms. Combs what advice she has for the students of SDMS and she said, “Don’t give up on yourself so easily. People are pretty amazing; keep trying until whatever it is you are doing turns out the way you want it to turn out.” Excellent advice!
