Today we’d like to shine the spotlight on Mrs. Tammy Wohlfrom, a library paraprofessional at Manchester Elementary School.
Returning to Manchester Elementary to work in the library was like coming home for Mrs. Wohlfrom who attended MES herself, and who went one to be part of the first sophomore class at South Dearborn High School after it was built! Mrs. Wohlfrom went on to attend Cincinnati State, Houston Northwest Community College, and graduated from the Cincinnati School of Court Reporting.
Mrs. Wohlfrom said her favorite teacher at MES was Mr. Mike Schwing who taught reading. “He made reading fun and exciting and he always had a smile and a joke when you came into class.” She said she also loved Mrs. Ellison. “She was so strict, but we really learned in her class. I will always remember her giving up her lunchtime to teach anyone who wanted to learn crocheting. I still crochet to this day!”
We asked Mrs. Wohlfrom what some of her favorite things might be and she answered, “I love getting new books in the library and looking through them, but what I like most is having students come to library and doing booktalks. You grab their attention about a book and then they all want to read it. I have incorporated learning baskets during library time and the kids love it.”
Mrs. Wohlfrom says her favorite thing about MES is “by far my co-workers. We are a family at MES. You know that you could go to any one of them and they would help with whatever you asked or needed.” That being said, she said that everyone knows that tennis and reading books are her true loves. “Do not touch the Tennis Channel at my house or else – and it is nothing for me to check out 10 books form the library and have them read within the week!”
Mrs. Wohlfrom’s advice for SDCSC students is to, “get involved and enjoy your high school years. Four years seems like a long time, but you never get those years back. Get involved. Be active. Make an impact!”
