We’re proud to introduce you to Jenna Hamlett, SDCSC career student and our alumni spotlight this week.
Mrs. Hamlett graduated from SDHS in 1999. After graduation, she attended Butler University where she received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She currently works as a pharmacist at Humana Healthcare.
We asked Mrs. Hamlett what made her choose her career path and how SDCSC influenced her choice. She says she “always loved science and math, so going into the pharmacy field seemed like a logical choice.” Mrs. Hamlett says that she had amazing teachers while at SDHS who “really fostered my curiosity and love of learning. I feel like the curriculum really prepared me for my studies in pharmacy.”
When we asked Mrs. Hamlett about her fondest memories of her time at SDCSC, she shared that some of her best memories were of being involved in the many sports and student organizations offered, among them basketball, swimming, student government, and National Honor Society. She says, “I believe that balancing academics, sports, and extra curricular activities really helped prepare me for the real world.” In her spare time, Mrs. Hamlett enjoys photography, traveling, and cheering her three children on at sports. She also coaches gymnastics.
When her children grew to the age where they would begin their school careers, Mrs. Hamlett and her husband chose to move back to South Dearborn. She says, “My husband and I made the choice to move back home to Manchester/SDCSC when my kids were old enough to start school. It has been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made for our family. My kids now attend the same elementary school that I did, and they are absolutely thriving. The teachers and staff are outstanding, and I love the sense of community here at SDCSC.”
We asked Mrs. Hamlett what advice she would give SDCSC students and she responded, “Surround yourself with people who have similar goals.” Great advice! Our thanks go out to Mrs. Hamlett for sharing her story with us.
