It’s Meet Our Team Monday, and this week we are shining the spotlight on Mr. George Gardner, Science teacher at South Dearborn Middle School.
Mr. Gardner graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in 1981. He then attended Northern Kentucky University where he received his B.A. degree in Physical Education and Health. He later went on to pursue a master’s degree in MAE Physics.
Mr. Gardner says that when he was in school the teacher that had the biggest impact on him was his PE teacher, Coach Dick Meador. He said, “Coach Meador did things the right way. He earned our respect and set high goals for us. Anybody that had Mr. Meador should consider himself lucky.”
When we asked Mr. Gardner what made him choose education as a career he answered, “I figured out while in the Navy that I wanted a degree. I realized that I wanted to help young people as a teacher and a coach.” He says he has been interested in science for as long as he can remember and feels that science can open more doors than any other subject. Mr. Gardner said he enjoys discussions with interested students and loves doing demonstrations and experiments. “We have some exceptionally hard-working students and I try to get them on board as much as I can.”
Mr. Gardner says he is looking toward the future and retirement, but he plans to have a great time on the way! He hopes to someday add college professor to his resume, too.
In his free time, Mr. Gardner loves to travel and scuba-dive all over the world. His advice for SDCSC students? “Take full advantage of all the great things there are to do at school. No regrets!”
