This week our Meet Our Team Monday spotlight comes to us from Manchester Elementary School student reporters Abrie Van Winkle and Natalie Rupp

We had to go to the principal's office!!! Dunt, dunt, duh!!

This time we scheduled it!!

Mrs. Platt told us why she likes being a principal. “I like figuring out the best ways to help children learn, and I like working with the teachers and staff. I like the families and the community here.” What she doesn't like, “I don't like the paperwork and stuff like that.” Mrs. Platt says that she always wanted to be a teacher. Her grandmother and all her aunts were teachers. Mrs. Platt never thought of being a principal as a child, but she sure does make a good one.

Mrs.Platt has been a principal for 15 years. She went to Indiana State University and got her bachelor's degree. She also got her master's degree at Indiana Wesleyan University. She was a teacher for eleven years starting at Aurora Elementary, then South Dearborn Middle School, and then at Dillsboro Elementary School. She got her principal's license at Indiana State University as well. Now she is working to get her PhD in Educational Leadership.

All the while, she has worked hard for other people's children, Mrs. Platt has also raised two children of her own and taken good care of her family. Her daughter, Megan, will graduate from the University of Cincinnati in December, and her son, Craig, is a sophomore in high school. Mrs. Platt's favorite thing to do outside of school is to unwind with a good book. She also loves to travel and go to the beach.

Mrs. Platt has been a wonderful principal to us; we love the way she has made our school a great learning environment. When asked what inspires her to do such a good job, she said, “Watching kids grow up to be successful adults, and especially kids that struggle and then end up going to college and get a great job. That inspires me.”
